Pornanong Phatlum finishes 2nd at World Ladies Championship in Haikou
Pornanong Phatlum finished second behind local winner Shan Shan Feng after firing a final 70 at the inaugural World Ladies Championship in China yesterday.
Pornanong, Thailand's No.1 female golfer, hit five birdies against three bogeys at the par-72 Vintage Course, Mission Hill in Hainan.
She finished with a nine-under-par total of 207 at the three-day event which saw Feng pull off a wire-to-wire victory on 206 after her final round of 71.
Feng received 56,275.95 (about 2.25 million baht) while Pornanong received 38,080 (about 1.5 million baht).
Pernilla Lindberg of Sweden finished with 69 for third place while Li Ying Ye of China tied for fourth with Diana Luna of Italy.
Thailand's Nontaya Srisawang fired four birdies and a lone bogey at 17th to finish with a 69 and 210 total and a sixth-placed finish.
Thailand also took second place in the team event as Pornanong and Nontaya shot a total of 417, two behind consistent performers China.
Pornanong said that the final day course conditions had proved tougher than in the earlier rounds because of the strong wind but she was still happy with her finish.
"I've shown my best form so far this year," said the Chaiyaphum native. "I have gradually improved my game this season, especially my approach shots and putting."
This week, she will play at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup in Phoenix, Arizona.
