Doksuri to make landfall close to the northern part of Hainan
Tropical Storm Doksuri will just miss Hong Kong, home to more than 7 million people. According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, it looks like it has taken a southward jog and the worst of the storm will miss them.
Doksuri continues to travel west-northwest through the South China Sea, the center said. Some more good news is that no strengthening is expected as the meteorological environment is not favorable.
According to JTWC reports, Doksuri's most likely place for landfall will be close to the northern part of Hainan Island or the Leizhou peninsula in the Chinese peninsula of Guangdong. The most likely time for this is around noon Saturday, Hong Kong local time.
The main threat from this system will be 5-10 inches of rain falling on portions of the Leizhou peninsula. Luckily, this area has not seen heavy amounts of rain recently, so major flooding is not expected. However, localized flooding and mudslides are certainly possible.
