On 22nd April, a press conference was held in Hainan discussing the changes and development that have taken place in Hainan since it became an international tourist resort in 2010.Tan Li, the vice governor of Hainan Province, said Hainan is mulling relaxing the limitations of duty-free shopping, controlling the tourists number and eradicating commercial fraud in an exclusive interview after the conference.

Although the duty-free store in Sanya has received a warm welcome by consumers, complaints on the 5000 yuan shopping limit and limited range of goods come along as well. The contradictory situation will soon be settled as the Hainan government decided to relax the duty-free shopping limitations, according to Tang.

Statistics shows the number of tourists hit 490,000 during Spring Festival in Sanya. The limited capacity in Sanya failed due to excessive tourists and lead to traffic jams. To solve the problems, the Hainan government plans to strengthen the construction of public facilities and control the number of tourist in Sanya at the same time.

Meanwhile, the regulation of seafood restaurants is also a big concern for the Hainan government since the overcharging scandal that occurred during Spring Festival in Sanya. Tang said they will strengthen the supervision on hotels’ prices and other goods’ prices especially during the holidays, preventing the overcharging scandal from happening again.
