Taiwan is planning to offer pre-marriage counseling services to potential Chinese spouses of Taiwanese in cities in southern and southeastern China, officials said Saturday.

The services, which have already been adopted for foreign spouses from Southeast Asian countries, are aimed at helping new immigrants acquire knowledge about Taiwan's folk customs and traditions and prepare for life in the country, the officials said.

The planned counseling programs will be opened on a trial basis in Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Hainan provinces in the near future, with the assistance of Taiwanese businesses operating there, they added.
