African Footprint, one of SA’s most successful shows, to be staged in Haikou
Still a World Hit 10 Years On
AFRICAN Footprint, one of South Africa’s most successful musical shows, is touring China as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations.
African Footprint’s large cast tell SA’s vibrant story through song and dance.
The 40-member cast jetted to Gaungzhou, China, last week to continue raising the local flag internationally.
Their six-week tour will see them taking the world acclaimed show to places such as Haikou, Nanning, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Yunan, Shanghai, Jiaxing and Beijing.
Since its inaugural performance in 2000, African Footprint has gone on to become one of SA’s longest-running musicals, entertaining people all over the world.
With its raw energy, talent, spirit and passion, the show has played to standing ovations in the US, China, Australia, Monte Carlo, Europe, Israel, India, Mexico, Lebanon and France.
In their performances the cast take an exhilarating journey through Africa’s history, culture and spirit.
The production tells the vibrant and diverse story of SA through traditional African, kwela, tap, contemporary ballet, gumboot, pantsula and hip-hop song and dance styles.
Ten years after its world premiere in 2000, African Footprint continues to bring something uniquely African to global audiences. The show’s first performance took place 10 years ago on Robben Island on December 31 1999, with its public debut in May 2000.
The show recently completed a highly successful tour of Mexico, the US, France and Lebanon.
Richard Loring, the show’s founder, said: "We’re thrilled to showcase African Footrpint in front of a South African audience. The cast has the passion and commitment of ambassadors, wishing to promote the culture of this beautiful, beautiful land."
While touring France recently the production was awarded the Paris Match Certificate of Excellence and Professionalism. It has also won three Vita Awards; Two Naledi Awards: Best Choreography, Best Lighting; and a South African Tourism Award.
