Over 100 surfers to compete in Hainan Riyue Bay Int’l Surfing Festival
Over 100 surfers from the United States, South Africa, Australia and other countries will feature in ISA China Cup Heats and ASP Hainan Classic Heats during the Hainan Riyue Bay International Surfing Festival.
The festival will kick off on Saturday night in Wanning city of southern Hainan Province, and the surfers will compete for the total prize of nearly USD 300,000, according to the organizers at the press conference on Saturday.
The ISA China Cup Heats, slated from Jan.8 to 10, has attracted 52 surfers with the total prize of USD 200,000.
And the ASP Hainan Classic Heats will be held from Jan. 11 to 14 with the prize totaling USD 95,000.
During the festival from Jan. 7 to 14, China will become the international surfing capital with the world's top surfers competing on their national teams.
With a lot of world-known bays such as Shimei Bay, Riyue Bay and Nanyan Bay, Wanning hosted the international surfing festival for the first time in 2010, and surfing has become an international card for the city.
