Clipper 2019-20 Race, Sanya team finishes UK training
The 2019-20 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will start at St. Katharine Docks in London on September 1st, 2019, with the 40,000 nautical mile global route to include 15 stopovers in Punta del Este, Cape Town, Fremantle, the Whitsundays, Sanya, Zhuhai, and Qingdao.
The Sanya Ambassadors of Visit Sanya, China recently celebrated the completion of an intensive month-long training program in the UK in preparation for the 40,000 mile life-changing experience.
Following Sanya’s triumphant debut in the 2017-18 race, the team of Visit Sanya, China will be led around the world by the Scottish Clipper Race skipper Seumas Kellock. This 26-year-old Edinburgh-born sailor is the youngest of the eleven-strong line up of Clipper 2019-20 Race Skippers.
Seumas has first-hand experience of the beautiful tropical resort, after visiting the island city during the Clipper 2017-18 Race Stopover. He said: “I am so pleased to be the Visit Sanya, China, Clipper Race Skipper for the 2019-20 race. I have visited Sanya before, and can’t wait to share my first-hand experiences of the amazing holiday destination around the world and help promote its newly-acquired free trade zone.”
The Sanya Ambassadors will each complete a single leg of the race and work, live, and compete together in challenging yet highly rewarding situations against everything that Mother Nature has to throw at them, as well as having the opportunity to travel to exciting destinations as they race across the world’s oceans.
The Clipper 2019-2020 Race fleet is expected to arrive in Sanya between February 10th and 15th, 2020. The crew members of Visit Sanya, China come from 14 countries and regions, including 41 male crew members and 19 female crew members.
