Clipper 2019-20 Race starts in London, Sanya marquee unveiled
The Clipper 2019-20 Round-the-World Yacht Race Village officially opened to the public on August 25th, 2019, at St. Katharine Docks, London, and the race’s eleven-strong fleet of identical 70-foot yachts prepared to depart for London on September 1st, 2019.
Sanya unveiled its tourism-themed marquee again at the Race Village, one year after Sanya made its triumphant debut in the 2017-18 edition of the race.
The well-designed marquee showcases Sanya’s beautiful tropical natural scenery, the city’s charming tourism offerings via displays of travel brochures, the region’s local souvenirs and handcrafts, and tourism promotional photos.
Kelvin, a visitor from Birmingham, UK, said, “through my participation in this event, I’ve learned that Sanya claimed a maiden Clipper 2017-18 Race win. Sanya is a beautiful tropical resort city. I also heard that the city now has a direct air route linking with London. This confirms my determination to visit Sanya.”
Miss. Wu, who has been living abroad for many years, was surprised to learn while she visited the marquee about the great changes that have taken place in Sanya in recent years. “The Sanya marquee looks amazing! Sanya is now an international tourist resort city. I think it’s great that the local government is promoting the city’s brand profile in partnership with the Clipper Race.”
Sanya’s promotional event attracted a large number of local visitors who were either busy enquiring about traveling to Sanya, or who took part in an interactive session at the marquee.
With its own exclusive exhibition area at the Race Village, Sanya is taking this opportunity to showcase the unique charms of the international coastal tourist city to tourists from around the world, and to show off the remarkable progress the city has made in developing into an international free trade zone (port).
During the Race Village’s opening event, Sanya also organized related events at the marquee, including a Clipper Race book sales charity donation to The United Nations Children’s Fund and a “Lucky Tourist” recruitment event offering a free trip to Sanya to a lucky winner.
On August 28th, 2019, The team of Visit Sanya, China also arranged public facing events such as open boat days.
The official spectator boat of Visit Sanya, China provided friends, family and race followers a fun way to explore a 70-foot stripped out ocean racing yacht, both above and below deck, as well as speak to crew about what it’s really like to race around the globe.
