Clipper Race Team Sanya: ‘Ride on the Wind’ book launch held in London
On August 26th, 2019, the official launch of the book subtitled “Clipper 2017-18 Race Team Sanya China Round the World Stories” was held at St. Katharine Docks, London. The book, whose title is “Ride on the Wind,” tells the story of how Team Sanya clinched the Clipper 2017-18 Race overall victory.
The book launch was attended by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, founder of the Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race; Xu Lijia, China’s former laser radial Olympic champion; as well as some of the Sanya crew members from the 2017-18 and 2019-20 Clipper Race events.
After racing over 40,000 nautical miles around the globe, Sanya Serenity Coast team became the first-ever Chinese team to clinch an overall victory in the Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race, which concluded in Liverpool, UK, on July 27th, 2018.
A documentary, focusing on the Sanya Serenity Coast team’s performance in the 2017-18 Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race, was played at the event.
Over the course of 11 months after leaving Liverpool’s Albert Dock, over 60 non-professional crew members from many walks of life representing the tropical destination Sanya raced in 13 individual races on board Clipper 70, crossing six oceans and visiting as many continents along the way as part of the Sanya Serenity Coast team.
In his address, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, founder of the Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race, said, “Over the past year, the Sanya race crew have proved themselves an international high-performance team. Their success story has attracted a great deal of international media attention and significantly enhanced Sanya’s brand as a leading tropical tourism destination and an international sailing destination. I’m looking forward to more good news from Team Sanya and their host port in the upcoming Clipper 2019-20 Race!”
In the future, Sanya will organize a series of action-packed events and tourism events to promote the tropical holiday destination in more than ten stopover cities around the world. Sanya will continue to use the Clipper Race as an influential business platform with the aim of presenting the city’s unique charms as an international coastal tourist city, while also showing off the outstanding achievements made in helping Hainan develop into an international free trade zone (port).
