Visit Sanya, China claims second place in Race 2 in Clipper 2019-20 Race
The “Qingdao” team powered to victory in Race 2 of the Clipper 2019-20 Round-the-World Yacht Race after a 26-day dash from Portugal to Uruguay that spanned over 5,000 nautical miles. The “Visit Sanya, China” team, led by Scottish Skipper Seumas Kellock, crossed the finish line at 20:10:55 UTC (17:10:55 local Uruguayan time) on October 11th, 2019, claiming second place.
Although the current gap between the teams is just two nautical miles, “Visit Sanya, China” has dropped into second place. Skipper Seumas Kellock reported: “We continued to battle with light wind just as we had done all night. It is very frustrating when there is only a wee bit of wind but even worse when it’s not coming from a direction you can use to your full advantage. Still we soldiered on and at some point just after sunrise our good friends Qingdao appeared on the horizon.”
