On November 28th, 2019 (Cape Town local time), the “Visit Sanya, China” team set off for the third leg of the Clipper 2019-20 Round-the-world Yacht Race. The voyage will stretch 4,750 miles from the west to the east of the South Indian Ocean. It is expected to take about 23 to 26 days for the yachts to sail from Cape Town to Fremantle, Australia.

The South Indian Ocean is one of the ultimate challenges for a professional sailor. Strong winds and floating ice pose great threats along the voyage.

The scoring point of the third leg is about 1,800 miles away from Cape Town, adjacent to Archipel Crozet. The fleet will stop at Fremantle, a city located 19 kilometers southeast of Perth. Fremantle is a major Australian port city in Western Australia, located at the mouth of the Swan River. The city is named after Captain Charles Fremantle, the English naval officer who established a camp at the site in 1829.

The Sanya Ambassadors of the third leg are Qian Xueyao and Yuan Xi, both of whom are experienced sailors. They expressed confidence in the voyage.

The Sanya team is expected to call at Fremantle, in Australia, on December 21st or 22nd, 2019 (Fremantle local time).
