Chinese Consul General in Perth Zhihua Dong greets Chinese sailors
On December 19th, 2019, a delegation led by Madam Zhihua Dong, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Perth, paid a visit to the Fremantle Sailing Club.
After a formal meeting with Sir Robin Knox-Johnston at the Fremantle Sailing Club, which is serving as the host location of the Clipper Race fleet between legs three and four of the race, the delegation had the opportunity to talk with Clipper Race Skippers and Ambassador Crew Members who had been selected to represent their respective cities in a leg of the Clipper Race. Madam Zhihua Dong greeted seven Chinese sailors from Sanya, Qingdao, and Zhuhai.
She stated that she was very proud to see so many Chinese sailors on the yachts in the race, and that three of the 11 yachts in the race were representing beautiful Chinese cities.
The delegation also brought Chinese gifts to the sailors and Clipper Round-the-world Yacht Race officials.
At the meeting, officials discussed the conditions faced by the crews, the teams’ achievements, and ways in which the Clipper Race has changed crewmembers’ lives.
Madam Zhihua Dong also invited attendees to visit Hainan Province, by saying, “The city of Perth wishes to expand its Chinese tourism market. If people from Hainan Province can pay a visit to Western Australia, the two parties can cooperate on sports tourism and water sports.”
