The 2017-18 Clipper Race fleet is expected to arrive in Sanya, a host port and team partner of the Clipper Race, for the first time in leg five of the race in February 2018.

 

The arrival of the Clipper Race fleet to Sanya will coincide with the opening of the Race Village at Sanya Serenity Marina.

From February 21st to March 4th, 2018, the Clipper Race Sanya Race Village will be open to visitors looking to learn more about the world’s biggest round-the-world race and to enjoy festivities aimed at sending off the intrepid Clipper Race crew in style.

 

The 25,000-square-meter waterfront village at Sanya Serenity Marina will host two weeks of sports, entertainment, and leisure events. There will be opportunities to look around one of the Clipper 70-foot ocean racing yachts, “About the Clipper Race” free public talks, festive welcoming and departure ceremonies, as well as displays and demonstrations by official partners and suppliers.

Sanya authorities will take the opportunity to show off the city’s excellent marina facilities and strong sailing heritage to global sailing fans and spectators.

 

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is a sailing race that goes around the world in eight legs, with trained amateur crew members. The race is 40,000 nautical miles long and takes almost a year to complete. Twelve teams compete and make up the world’s largest matched fleet of 70-foot ocean racing yachts.

 

The global circuit of the Clipper 2017-18 Race started in Liverpool on August 20th, 2017. The circuit stopovers include Punta del Este (Uruguay), Cape Town (South Africa), Fremantle, Sydney, Hobart and East Coast Australia (Australia), Sanya and Qingdao (China), Seattle and New York (USA), Panama, and Derry/Londonderry (Northern Ireland). The race will finish in Liverpool on 28 July, 2018.
