Clipper Race crew treated to a special day of sightseeing in Sanya
On February 25th, an exciting Sanya city tour was arranged for some 25 crew members of the Clipper 2017-18 Race and their families as a welcome to Sanya for their stopover in the city.
The 40-member tour group consisted of crew members from the Clipper 2017-18 Race, an official work team from the Clipper Race, and media members. The group visited some of Sanya’s must-see attractions, including the Sanya Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone and Hainan Binglanggu Li and Miao Cultural Heritage Park (Binglanggu Valley).
The Clipper crew expressed appreciation for Sanya’s pleasant weather and cozy atmosphere. For many of them, it was their first time to Sanya. Among many sights, they were impressed by the Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone’s giant sea-side statue of Kwan-yin Bodhisattva, which stands 108 meters (353.33 feet) tall.
Bronwen, wife of a crew member from the Liverpool 2018 said she saw the state of the Kwan-yin Bodhisattva from the airplane, and that it was awesome to take a closer look at it thanks to the tour, which was arranged by the organizers of the Sanya Stopover.
Visit Seattle crew member David Benz commented that Sanya is a beautiful, warm, and friendly city and he plans to visit it again in the future.
In Binglanggu Valley, the Clipper Race crew members visited the original local villages of the Li and Miao ethnic minorities, the Li and Miao Culture Museum, tasted Shanlan wine, took part in a bamboo dance and enjoyed an open-air performance by Li and Miao people called “Areca: Ancient Rhyme.”
Kathryn Foulkes, Global Communications Officer of the Clipper Race, expressed her appreciation to the Sanya Stopover organization for arranging such a nice tour for the Clipper Race crew, who were very happy with the tour. The scenery was beautiful, the food was great, and the people were very kind, she said.
