On February 26th, 2018, a meeting was held at Sanya Serenity Marina to welcome the Sanya Serenity Coast team after their arrival at the team’s home port.

A Dong, Mayor of the Sanya Municipal People’s Government, extended his congratulations to the team, which is now representing the city in the Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race. In his address to the crew, he said, “It is a very proud achievement for Sanya Serenity Coast and the City of Sanya to be featured on the Clipper 2017-18 Race itinerary alongside iconic international destinations such as Sydney and New York.”

He added: “Led by Skipper Wendy Tuck, you have been working hard. Your spirit of adventure and your commitment to achieving your goals is nothing short of inspirational. We hope that you will enjoy the amazing hospitality here at Sanya Serenity Marina, and especially in the following days, we hope that you will enjoy the stunning tropical scenery and unique charm here.”

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston praised the outstanding performance of the Sanya Serenity Coast team and Sanya’s ambassadors during the race. “Their excellent sailing skills and good communication skills have all made the Sanya Serenity Coast more competitive, and have earned them praise in the Clipper Race fleet,” he said. He added that the Clipper Race will continue to cooperate with the Sanya government to help develop Sanya into a world-class stopover for the race.

The meeting was attended by Chen Ming, Secretary General of the Sanya Municipal People’s Government, Wang Kehong, Deputy Secretary-General of the Sanya Municipal Government; Chen Zhenli, Director of the Sanya Municipal Bureau Of Culture, Radio, TV, Publication and Sports; Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, founder of the Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race; and William Ward, CEO of the Clipper Race.
