The young men armed with knives burst into dorms of
the Hainan Institute of Science and Technology on May 19

Ten young men have been detained for injuring nine students in a school attack in south China’s Hainan Province, local police said Monday.

The pre-dawn attack happened on May 19 when young men armed with knives burst into dorms of the Hainan Institute of Science and Technology in the provincial capital of Haikou and slashed nine students.

Earlier in the day, the young men, from nearby villages, had a fight with the students after a dispute at a food stall outside the school. Four students were wounded in the confrontation.

The case is being further investigated, a spokesman with the Haikou Municipal Public Security Bureau said.

The school has strengthened its security after the attack.
