According to figures from Hainan Provincial Tourism Authority, the number of overseas visitors to the island during the first three quarters of 2011 was up 10.5% to 538,100.

Visits from European countries rose by 32.3% to 187,765, while visitors from American increased by 23.7%t to 29,380. European market has taken over Asian to be the No.1 foreign tourist source market in Hainan.

Hainan has been one of the most popular destinations among Russia tourists. Trips by visitors from Russia in the first nine months also increased significantly to 146,462, a rise of 44%.
 
The tourism authority welcomed the ongoing increase of overseas visitors, saying the latest figure indicate the tourist arrivals from Russia set a record high for the first time this year.
