On July 8th, 2020, Sanya Yalong Bay Golf Club and the Professional Golfers Association of Australia (PGA of Australia) agreed to jointly establish a golf academy in Sanya: the Yalong Bay-Australia PGA Golf Academy.

 

The facility in Yalong Bay will be the first PGA of Australia golf academy in China. The academy will feature members from PGA of Australia who will provide professional golf coaching. The academy’s daily management will also be taken care of by members of PGA of Australia.

 

The establishment of the Yalong Bay PGA Academy is an important part of an effort by Sanya officials to implement the spirit of the Chinese central government’s policy on deepening the integration of sports and education with the aim of promoting the healthy development of Chinese youth, as well as on helping Hainan develop into a national sports tourism demonstration zone by 2025.

 

“The establishment of the Australia PGA Golf Academy on Hainan Island is a good start, and will be made possible by this cooperative agreement with the Hainan Golf Association,” said Stuart Hergt, Chief Operating Officer of the PGA of Australia.

 

“I visited Yalong Bay Golf Club at the end of 2019 after participating in the ‘Meishi Champion Cup’ Golf Tour Promotional Meeting in Hainan,” Hergt added. “The facilities at Yalong Bay Golf Club are very impressive, and will provide an ideal teaching environment for Australian PGA members.”

 

Ms. Jiang Xuemei, General Manager of the Yalong Bay Golf Club, said, “Yalong Bay Golf Club has been an active promoter of youth golf programs in China for the past 20 years. It is great to see such a professional golf academy and high-quality golf coaching staff engaging in youth golf education in Sanya. The golf academy will not only help improve youth golf training, but also serve as an important way to extend the industrial chain, and to consolidate and develop the city’s local golf brand. We are confident that under the guidance and support of the Hainan Golf Association, youth golf training in China will be brought to a new level, and the move will attract more high-end talented individuals to Sanya to live and work, and contribute to the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port.”
