Sanya promotes standardization of public signs in foreign languages
A meeting, officially called the “Joint Meeting on Standardization of Public Signs in Foreign Languages and Signage Construction in Sanya City,” was held in Sanya on May 11th, 2020.
Presiding over the meeting was Bao Hongwen, Deputy Secretary of the Sanya Municipal Party Committee, Acting Mayor of the Sanya Municipal People’s Government, and General Convener of the Joint Meeting on Standardization of Foreign Language Signs and Signage Construction in Public Places of Sanya City.
Meeting attendees discussed details of an upcoming citywide campaign in Sanya to promote the standardization of public signs in foreign languages. By the beginning of October this year, construction on public signs in foreign languages with standard translations will be completed along major roads, and at airports, stations, docks, ports, and other public locations in the city, with the aim of becoming a demonstration project, with guidance and experience to be copied and promoted island-wide.
Work on public signs in foreign languages is part of a broader effort to support free trade port development in Hainan. All units in each district in Sanya are required to take measures to promote the standardization of public signs in foreign languages, building a standard foreign language signage system for the upcoming 6th Asian Beach Games, which will be held in the city from November 28th to December 6th, 2020.
