■ More than 100 massive international events were held in Sanya in 2019, including the 1st Sanya Int’l Flower Tourism Festival, the World Laureates Sanya Forum, 1st Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Agriculture and 2019 Conference on Overseas Chinese Investment, Innovation and Pioneering.
■ Hainan’s first Sino-South Korean joint venture travel agency, Sanya LIDE International Travel Agency, was established in Sanya on October 29th, 2019.
■ Sanya’s Jiyang District was named among the first group of nationwide demonstration sites for the promotion of holistic tourism in September 2019.
■ Hainan’s first foreign-invested equity investment enterprise and first financial factoring company registered in Sanya.
■ The Sanya Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital was designated among the first batch of national bases for exporting traditional Chinese medicine services in December 2019.
■ Sanya took the lead in the province in establishing a regional-bonded jurisdiction system specializing in intellectual property cases and foreign-related civil and commercial cases.
■ Sanya was included on a list of the first eleven pilot cities nationwide to qualify for a new “zero-waste” construction project in April 2019.
■ Sanya’s Yazhou District was listed as the pilot area in China for sustainable agricultural development in November 2019.

Striving to develop into an international tourism consumption center
Tourism Industry
■ Sanya opened or began development of a number of entertainment projects, including Sanya Haichang Fantasy Town, and Hello Kitty Paradise Park.
■ Sanya issued several policies to support the Hainan-HK-Macau yacht individual tours.
■ Costa Cruises’ Costa Romantica made Sanya its home port for new routes.
■ In 2019, the number of yacht and sailboat voyages increased by 58.7 percent year on year, and the number of inbound and outbound cruise visits increased by 29.7 percent year on year.
■ The second-stage project of the Sanya International Duty-free Complex was put into use on December 30th, 2019.
■ Sanya is in active preparation for the sixth Asian Beach Games 2020 in all fields. The emblem, slogan and mascot of 6th Asian Beach Games were officially released in Sanya. The venue facilities project was advanced in an orderly manner, and the construction of Sanya Sports Center was started.
■ Sanya carried out a three-year action plan to boost the development of the local nighttime economy.
■ Sanya set up eight overseas tourism promotion centers to strengthen the integrated marketing.
Modern Service Industry
■ Sanya worked to speed up the construction of CBD projects. Projects such as Joy City Global Center, Shenya Financial Mansion, and Poly International Plaza broke ground, and are now under construction.
■ 45 enterprises from Fortune Global 500 companies and China Top 500 companies set up their regional headquarters in Sanya.
■ A number of financial enterprises such as Taiping Financial Services Co., Ltd. were based in Sanya.
■ Construction on the Poly C + International Expo Center is underway in Sanya.
■ Over 8,700 meetings and conferences were held in Sanya, including 75 large-scale conferences (over 1,000 attendees).
High-tech Industry
■ There were more than 150 enterprises and scientific research institutions registered in Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, including eight state-owned scientific research institutions, seven state-owned enterprises, and five universities. In 2019, construction started on 40 projects involving total investment of RMB 6 billion.
■ A number of scientific research institutions, such as the Hainan Seed Innovation Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Thermal Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Water Sciences, established offices at Nanfan Science and Technology City.
■ Sanya Deep Sea Science and Technology City is home to a number of scientific research institutions and state-owned enterprises, such as the Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the China Geological Survey Bureau, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, China Merchants Group, as well as private science and technology enterprises including iFLYTEK and SenseTime.
■ Sanya Science and Education City signed cooperation agreements with domestic universities including Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, China Ocean University, Wuhan University of Science and Technology, and China Agricultural University.
■ Construction started on a transfer base for the introduction of global animal and plant germplasm at Moon Island.
■ More than 80 enterprises set up offices or branches at the Remote Sensing Information Industrial Park.
■ A total of 316 enterprises registered at Sanya Internet Information Industry Park.
Education Industry
■ Two high-quality schools – the High School Affiliated with Renmin University of China, and Cambridge International High School at the Sanya Foreign Language School, opened their doors in Sanya.
■ Construction on the Sanya High School Affiliated with Shanghai International Studies University is underway.
Medical Services
■ Five regional-bonded medical associations were set up in Sanya.
■ Standardization construction on primary medical institutions is underway at full capacity.
Indemnificatory Housing
■ Sanya built more than 10,000 indemnificatory housing units, including 1,700 apartments for talented individuals in tourism.
■ Construction on 15 shantytown resettlement projects is underway in Sanya, involving a total of 5,523 families.
Government Administrative Efficiency
Sanya government is ranked third in administrative efficiency among city governments in China, according to a report released at the 9th Management and Decision-making Efficiency Evaluation Seminar held in Beijing on January 3rd, 2020.
The ranking report was conducted by the Government Management Research Institute of Beijing Normal University, the Management and Decision Making Evaluation Center at Jiangxi Normal University, and the Chinese Social Sciences Academic Press.
Hainan government is ranked sixth among provincial governments in China in the 2019 ranking.
