Sanya works to set up Tourism Satellite Account

Sanya has intensified efforts to establish a Tourism Satellite Account, a data system that will detail the contribution of tourism to the regional economy.

Developed by Hainan Beidou Tianhui Science and Technology Co., Ltd., the Sanya Tourism Satellite Account will be separate from a set of regional economic accounts.

The Tourism Satellite Account will measure the following factors: the contribution of the tourism industry to Sanya’s GDP, tourism’s ranking compared to other economic sectors, the number of jobs created by tourism in the economy, the amount of investment in the sector, tax revenue generated by tourism industries, tourism consumption, and more.

Mr. Chen Tiejun, member of the CPC Sanya Municipal Committee and Executive Vice Mayor of the Sanya Municipal People’s Government, said that the Tourism Satellite Account will provide a comprehensive picture of Sanya’s tourism industry and its impact not only on other sectors but on the overall economy as well. He expects that the tourism satellite account will play an important role in the decision-making processes of local tourism authorities, and provide useful database support to investors.
