The Sanya Meteorological Bureau recently announced that three to four typhoons or tropical storms are expected to affect the city in 2019.

According to the forecast, the first tropical storm is expected to hit Sanya in early July and the last one is predicted to occur in late October.

The average temperature for the period from January to April in Sanya this year was 25.4 degrees Celsius, 2.0 degrees Celsius higher than the temperature ordinarily was over the same period in past years. Total rainfall in Sanya is around 39.6 millimeters so far this year. That number is 31.1percent less than in past years.

Weather authorities said the situation is expected to improve as the city’s rainy season will begin in late May. During flood season (late May to late October), average precipitation is expected to reach 1,210 to 1,410 millimeters in southern and western areas of the city, and 1,300 to 1,500 millimeters in eastern and northern areas of the city.
