On April 20th, 2019, the Shanghai Sanya Congenital Heart Disease Treatment Cooperation Project was jointly launched by the Sanya City Womenfolk and Infant Health Care Hospital, the Shanghai Jude Charitable Foundation, and Tongxinyuan Volunteer Team.

The project will provide free treatment for children with congenital heart disease (CHD) in underprivileged families in Sanya and other areas in southern Hainan.

Zhou Yuhai, Dean of the Sanya City Womenfolk and Infant Health Care Hospital, said that the project will focus on functional approaches including training, charity clinics, and surgeries, and will provide free screening and diagnosis for congenital heart disease patients in Sanya and other areas in southern Hainan. The project will also provide free treatment for children with congenital heart disease in underprivileged families.

After the launch ceremony, experts from the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Department of Shanghai Children’s Medical Center conducted free clinics and health consultations at the Sanya City Womenfolk and Infant Health Care Hospital. The experts then visited a child with congenital heart disease in a needy family in Sanya; further treatment for the child will soon be decided upon.

"The project will be able to basically eliminate the cost of treating congenital heart disease by coordinating the power of the government, society, and hospitals, and will relieve worries for many families,” said Lu Zhaohui, Acting Dean of the Sanya City Womenfolk and Infant Health Care Hospital.

This year The Ritz-Carlton Sanya, Yalong Bay, is once again supporting Smile Asia Week, a charitable initiative launched by Smile Asia that aims to support the care of children with cleft lip and other facial deformities.

From May 6th to 12th, 2019, the hotel will work to raise awareness of cleft lip and other facial deformities by selling specially crafted cakes. All proceeds will go directly to the charitable organization The Smile Mission, which will use the funds to perform life-changing surgeries.
