According to relevant resources, Hainan Provincial Government and the Civil Aviation Administration of China singed an agreement to build an airport in Danzhou during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period, the center of western regions in Hainan province.

Danzhou Development and Reform Commission yesterday told the reporter that they had succeeded in getting the approval for the western airport project.

Danzhou beat other neighboring bidding candidates on the island like Lingao, Changjiang and Dongfang after the provincial government proposed to build an airport in western regions.

"A lot of work has been done by local government in a bid for airport construction in Danzhou," said a local official.

He explained that the project is not a simple engineering contact, but one which reflects long-term influence on the economic and social development in western regions.
