Sanya is planning a number of projects to spur the development of its tourism industry. The city’s newest sports-oriented project is the Sanya Sports Center in Jiyang District. Ground was broken on the project on March 18th, 2019.

Located at the Baopo Xincheng Area of Baopo Village, the Sanya Sports Center project is part of the Sanya International Sports Industrial Park, a key initiative aimed at boosting the city's sports development.

The sports center will have a 40,000-seat sports stadium, a 12,000-seat sports hall, a 4,000-seat swimming gym, a sports park, and a 2,000-square-meter public fitness square where residents will be able to take part in various physical activities.

Agreements for the construction of a number of cultural and sports related projects were  signed in Sanya on the same day as the ground-breaking for the sports center, including the Sanya Hello Kitty Theme Park and the Chinese-funded Sanya Cruise Headquarters project.

Sanya International Sports Industrial Park

The Sanya International Sports Industrial Park will cost a total of RMB 3.1 billion. The construction period will last for three years.

This project will serve as an innovative international sports industrial park, integrating sports, tourism, leisure, entertainment, rehabilitation, “lifestyle” facilities, business offices, and more.

The project will include a Sanya sports center, a sports-themed hotel, an electronic competition park, a stylish sports commercial street, a Rehabilitation Center of the Beijing Sports University, a Sports Science and Technology Park of the Beijing Sports University, a number of national sports training bases for Chinese national teams, as well as other supporting facilities.

The project will focus on quality above all else with the aim of becoming a new urban landmark for Sanya’s sports tourism industry. It will also enrich the cultural value of the Hainan International Pilot Free Trade Zone and the free trade port with Chinese characteristics currently under construction.
