Apply to become an Ambassador on board Sanya’s team yacht during the Clipper 2019-20 Race!

The tropical paradise of Sanya has opened applications for its Clipper Race Ambassador Programme. The programme, which is available to residents of Sanya, gives locals the chance to take part in the 2019-20 edition of the epic 40,000 nautical mile circumnavigation when it kicks off this summer.

During its inaugural edition last year, Sanya Ambassadors from a range of backgrounds including translators, CEOs, tour leaders and professional sailors, raced alongside their international teammates on board Sanya’s team yacht, representing the city as they raced around the globe and helping the team to clinch overall victory.

Speaking about the Sanya Ambassadors, Clipper Race Chairman and Co-Founder Sir Robin Knox-Johnston said: “The ambassador programme Sanya ran during the Clipper 2017-18 Race was a fantastic platform to tell the destination’s story. I am looking forward to meeting the next generation of Sanya Ambassadors and watch them progress on their Clipper Race journeys.”

Laying on the southern tip of Hainan Island, Sanya will be the first of three Chinese Host Ports on the Clipper 2019-20 Race route.Boasting over 250 km of picture-perfect sandy beaches, lined with coconut palms, pristine waters and a balmy climate with 300 days of sunshine per year, China’s idyllic holiday destination lives up to its reputation as the ‘Hawaii of China’. This Host Port will be a welcome stopover for Clipper Race crew members to recuperate after weeks of intense sailing.

The culturally rich resort, which was the only Chinese destination to be chosen as one of the 52 places to visit by the New York Times in 2017, offers a warm welcome to visitors and has something for everyone; watersports enthusiasts flock to sail and surf on the South China Sea, adventurers can explore the lush rainforest and foodies can sample Sanya’s local delicacies.
