On Oct.30, Flight BR719 of Taiwan's EVA Air and Flight CI523 of China Airlines landed at Haikou Meilan International Airport, marking the beginning of a strategic cooperative relationship between the two cities.

The number of direct flights between the two regions will be increased to 18, each week.

"The new air routes will help promote economic, cultural and personnel exchanges between Hainan and Taiwan," said Sun Hongxiang, the GM OF China Airlines over the inaugural flight ceremony.

EVA Air operates the new route every Monday and Thursday and direct flights by China Airlines will be available every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

"With exchanges between Hainan and Taiwan becoming more and more frequent, existing flight services cannot meet the growing market demand."

Currently, Hainan Airlines operates two direct flights per week between Haikou and Taipei, while China Airlines runs two direct flights between Sanya and Taipei.
