With the trial implementation of the tax-refund and domestic duty-free policy, Haikou Customs has imported duty-free products worth up to $36.59 million in the first half of this year, nearly a 20 times increase over the same period last year, reports xinhuanet.com.

The local customs in Hainan has supervised nearly 300,000 items of duty-free commodities sold between April 20 and June 30 in the Sanya Duty-free Store. Nearly 100,000 tourists departed from the island with such commodities during the period.

In the first six months of this year, a total of 299 tax refund applications involving goods worth up to 1,080,000 yuan have been received by Haikou Customs.

To facilitate tourists’ handling of duty-free commodities, Haikou Customs developed standard operating instructions and set up a special supervision institution to ensure that customs officers are sent to the front line of clearance and will provide outgoing passengers with efficient services.
