Sanya is planning to build a 1,500m³ portable cold storage facility for vegetable preserves, with an aim of easing pressures on the veggie supply as well as stabilizing vegetable prices across the city.

In Sanya, during traditional public holiday periods, or when there are seasonal rains or bad typhoons, the local produce supplies are not great enough to meet demand, which leads to price spikes. Also, due to a lack of proper storage facilities, occasional increases in the price of vegetables causes inconvenience to consumers.

According to the Sanya Municipal Development and Reform Commission, the cold storage facility will be located at the city’s emergency control and distribution center at Yingbin Road, Jiyang District. Supervised by the Sanya Vegetable Basket Project Management Service Center, the cold storage facility will be equipped with a laboratory for pesticide residue detection.

During bad weather and major public holiday periods, enterprises from the fairly-priced-vegetable store alliance can apply for the veggie storage services, and the facility will provide storage free of charge for veggie produce.
