Duty-free policy makes Hainan a hotspot for shopping tourism during off season
April to August is the traditional off-season for the Hainan tourism market. This year, unlike the previous ones, the Hainan Duty-free policy had made the city a hotspot for shopping tourism, reports hinews.cn
According to statistics that have been collected by the Hainan Tourism Development Commission since the Duty-free policy was launched on April 20, the number of overnight tourist reached 2,386,200, up 11.25 % over the same period last year.
So far, the Sanya Duty-free Store has received more than 800,000 tourists .
Experts had said the Hainan duty-free policy will stimulate domestic consumption by lowering commodity prices after cutting taxes and act as an impetus to promote Hainan as an International Tourism Island.
Comparing with the previous, revenue from shopping tourism has taken an increasing proportion of the total tourism revenue. As an increasing number of Chinese mainland tourists have strong purchasing power, the implementation of the Hainan duty-free policy will effectively boost the shopping tourism.
