Hainan to build West Ring High-speed Railway in 2nd half of 2011
The feasibility report for construction of the Hainan West Ring High-speed Railway has been approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on July 7th. The project is expected to start construction in the second half of this year, reports xinhuanet.com.
The entire railway, starting from Haikou along the west coastline to Sanya, will be 344 km long and have 14 stops. The bullet train running on the railway line is expected to reach a speed of 200 km/h.
Investment in the 344-kilometre-long railway project will total about 27.1 billion yuan, which will be shared by the Ministry of Railways and Hainan provincial government. It will take 4 years to complete the whole project.
Upon its completion, the West Ring High-speed Railway together with the newly built railway will form a rail circuit around the island to modernize the Hainan transportation system.
