Hainan Airlines joining other national airlines lifts airlines’ fuel surcharge

Fuel surcharges on flights less than 800 kilometers have increased from 60 to 80 yuan per person for airliners including Southern Airlines (600029, 1055.HK), Eastern Airlines (600115, 0670.HK) and Hainan Airlines (600221), reportsnbd.com.cn. Fuel surcharge for more than 800 kilometers was adjusted from 110 to 140 yuan per person.
Airliners say the adjustment was attributed to higher lump-sum purchase costs for aviation oil. Airliners said they received notification yesterday from National Development and Reform Commission, which has not publicized the price adjustment.
Fuel costs generally account for approximately 40 percent of total costs, and airliners will absorb at least 20 percent of the increase in fuel prices.
