Hospital stocks of the antiserum for cobra venom have nearly run out in Hainan province.
"The snake venom antiserum is the most effective and efficient way to treat snake bites that have occurred within the previous two hours," said a doctor, surnamed Song, in the provincial hospital.
The cobra snake venom antiserum costs about 900 yuan ($138) while other types are about 500 yuan for each.
