More high-quality primary and high schools will be built in Sanya in the near future as part of the government’s effort to accelerate the development of education in the city.
 
According to the Sanya Municipal Education Bureau, at least four new national reputable high schools and universities will open branches in Sanya, including the Sanya High School Affiliated with Shanghai International Studies University, the High School Affiliated with Renmin University of China, the High School Affiliated with Southwest University, and Hainan Middle School’s Sanya Branch.

The High School Affiliated with Renmin University of China Sanya School will be located in Haitang District. It will be a public school providing courses for 3,400 students from primary, secondary, and high school. Construction on the Sanya School is expected to be completed at the end of this May. The school is expected to begin operations and admission procedures in September 2019.


  
The Sanya High School Affiliated with Shanghai International Studies University will be located in Tianya District. It will provide junior and senior high school education, as well as some international education programs for 2,500 students in total. The school will begin its junior high school enrollment program in September 2020.
 
Apart from the Sanya High School Affiliated with Shanghai International Studies University and the High School Affiliated with Renmin University of China Sanya School, Sanya is planning to bring in more high-quality educational resources from home and abroad to the city, including The Affiliated High School of Peking University, the High School Affiliated with The University of Chicago, and the Beijing 21st Century International School.
 
These joint education programs will have a positive impact on the development of Sanya’s education sector, and will also help to develop the city into an international seaside boutique resort.
 
At present, there are 327 schools in Sanya, including 157 kindergartens (19 public kindergartens and 138 private kindergartens); 160 primary and secondary schools (139 public schools and 21 private schools); 4 vocational secondary schools (2 public schools and 2 private schools), and 6 colleges and universities. 
There are 217,400 students and 10,600 faculty members in the city. Of the 217,400 students in the city, 29,600 are in kindergartens, 86,000 in primary schools, 27,400 in junior high schools, 15,000 in ordinary high schools, 8,400 in secondary vocational schools, and 51,000 in colleges and universities.
