Henn’s winning 450m design for Haikou Tower to be built
The Sky Lobby in Henn’s Haikou Tower
German practice Henn has beaten Wilkinson Eyre and Broadway Malyan in a public vote over the Haikou Tower in China.
Zaha Hadid and now-disbanded practice Will Alsop at RMJM were eliminated at an earlier stage of the international ideas competition which also involved a public vote.
The three finalists were asked to submit more detailed designs set in a wider masterplan.
Henn’s winning 450m design will be built in the new central business district of Haikou, the largest city on the southern island province of Hainan.
The 1.5 million sq m mixed-use development includes other buildings with heights ranging from 150m to 450m.
