6 Hainan fishers arrested in Palawan over poaching endangered sea turtles
AUTHORITIES on Thursday arrested six Chinese fishermen, including three minors, while fishing and catching endangered sea turtles in the waters of Balabac, Palawan.
Officials of the Police Regional Office 4-B said the suspects were on board a white boat when intercepted near Ramos Island in Balabac town.
PRO4-B director Chief Supt. Artemio Hicban, Jr. identified the suspects as Li An Chin, 56; Pai Chong Kwei, 56; Pang Lung So, 31; Chong Biao, 17; Li Chin Yi, 17, and Liao Tong Win, 14, all of Hainan, China.
Seized from the suspects’ possession were eight dead sea turtles, including one tagged DENR Diliman Quezon City RP 5190, a live male sea turtle, 20 turtle fins, 52 turtle’s chest, 14 turtle’s back, 15 empty gasoline containers, a compressor with tank and hoses and three containers filled with gasoline.
The illegal fishers were taken to Puerto Princesa City for charging.
