Tourists from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province will have a new option to travel to Hainan as non-stop trains between Chengdu and Haikou are expected to open from July 1st, 2011, reports xinhuenet.com.

The non-stop trip spans a distance of 2,182 km and the total journey time is 38 hours. During the trip, the train will run via several major cities including Chongqing, Guiyang and Liuzhou.

Compared with air ticket price, travelling to Hainan by the non-stop train is much cheaper, which will be more attractive to many tourists, said an official of the Hainan Tourism Development Commission.

At present, about 2 to 3 million tourists from Sichuan come to visit Hainan each year. After the operation of non-stop trains, the volume of tourists from Sichuan Province is expected to up from 5% to 10%.
