Local residents and tourists in Haikou may soon be getting some real relief from city life as 133 pubic toilets have been put into operation after a year’s intense construction, reports xinhuenet.com.

Among the 133 public toilets, 59 are newly built with a total investment of 11 million yuan. The installations of public toilets are mainly distributed in the central part of Haikou City to ease the shortage of public toilets.

Meanwhile, the Haikou Government has invested 4 million yuan to purchase 52 eco-friendly portable toilets to resolve the problem of a shortage of land for building public toilets in commercial centers.

At present, these newly built public toilets are open free to the public and tourists.
