Haikou to have 30 luxury hotels by 2015

Many world-renowned hotel brands have expanded their presence in Haikou’s hospitality market, which is emerging as a preferred MICE tourism destination.

There are currently 6 five-star hotels operating in the city, an 15 more under construction, most of which are located in the West Coastline Region.

Since the opening of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center in 2011, the existing, limited-in-size luxury properties have barely been able to meet the increasing demand of high-end tourists from the meetings and conferences market.

Last year, Haikou Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts and Howard Johnson New Port Resort Haikou opened for business.

Resort development has continued in Haikou. Doubletree Resort by Hilton Haikou, The Westin Haikou and Sofitel Haikou are speeding up construction and are expected to open successively from 2013 to 2015.
 
Besides, the construction of another 7-star super property[hotel?], Haikou Millennium Hotel, on a manmade island, is to be completed by 2015[check the timeline of this sentence], when it will become a landmark scenic spot for Haikou City.
