With less than one week until the traditional Chinese New Year, Sanya is seeing tourists flock to the city for holiday tours. According to the Sanya tourism authority, the average hotel occupancy rate reached 60% during the holiday period and there are still many rooms available for renting.
 
According to Sanya Phoenix International Airport, the travel rush peak has come earlier this holiday season, and the daily average passenger throughput of the airport has reached 50,000, an increase of 16% over the same period last year.
 
Air tickets for flights from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou are offered 30% discount and most tourists are seniors from northern China and families.
 
The period from Feb 11 to 13 has seen the highest hotel occupancy rates and some hotels in Sanya even hit 80% occupancy.
