Sanya’s tourism revenue in 2012 reached 19 billion yuan (US$ 3.05 billion), according to the local authorities recently.

Sanya received 11.03 million overnight visitors in 2012, up 8% over last year, with tourism revenue generated reaching 19 billion yuan, a 9.7% increase compared with 2011.

In 2012, Sanya invested 20 billion yuan in 34 provincial key projects, which totaled 120% of the annual investment plan. The total investment in fixed assets reached 43 billion yuan, a 20% increase. Besides, the government has spent 4.91 billion yuan developing 10 key local livelihood projects and built 9,554 units of low-income housing. The completion rate of annual work planning has reached 112%.

In 2013, the government will continue to improve the quality and efficiency of economic growth boosted by the development of the island as an international tourism destination.
