Hainan Airlines has begun direct flights between China and Sydney, becoming the fifth airline based in China to provide this route. Hainan Airlines will be the first airline, however, to provide a service from Sydney to Shenzen and Hangzhou, China.

Shenzen, is a rather important city of Business travellers. The city is the hub for finance and the manufacturing industries present in China. Hangzhou, is also a major financial district, highlighting how crucial both cities are as Business destinations.

Typically, Business travellers have had to fly to Hong Kong and then come in to China in order to reach these cities, and others. Now, the direct flight will mean that the route is less time consuming – a perfect alternative for Business travellers.

Russell Balding, Sydney Airport's CEO said: "Having direct access to a city like Shenzen is very important for business travellers"

"When businesspeople look to travel they look for a direct route. They get their quicker and arrive more refreshed, instead of being laid over in a hub," he added.

The route will operate the Airbus A330-200 aircraft, equipped with 36 seats in Business class. The seats have a spacious 74" pitch, and recline to form fully flat beds. The configuration of the Business class cabin is 2-2-2 providing more space for Business passengers.

Mr Balding will also be attempting to encourage the carrier to increase the services to daily: "I'll be talking to Hainan Airlines to see when the opportunity will be to move from three times a week to daily.”

"From a business perspective you're always looking for daily flights, rather than having to lay over in a city for 24 or 48 hours longer than you need to," he later added.
