Construction work of a new terminal building in Haikou Meilan International Airport is underway to modernize its handling operations, reports hndnews.com.
 
Covering a size of 13,200 sqm, the new international terminal is under construction and expected to be operational at the end of this year.
 
In 2010, the passenger throughput of Haikou airport reached 8.77 million.
 
Apart from construction of the new international terminal, Haikou airport will upgrade its supporting facilities to increase its handling capacity and secure quality service.
 
By 2020, Haikou Meilan International Airport is expected to become an important international hub airport in the Southeast Asian region, with an annual passenger throughput to hit 30 million.
