Hotel prices in Hainan province have been on the rise, since China's central government announced it would become an international tourism destination.

And despite that cap, hotels are raising room rates even more ahead of the lunar New Year. A luxury suite in Sanya costs nearly 10 thousand yuan a night, while customers have to pay tens of thousands yuan to spend a night in high-end villas. The sky-high hotel prices are scaring away visitors. Occupancy rates are less than 70 percent, which is lower than in previous years.
