Marriott International launches construction on Renaissance Bo’ao Resort & Spa
Renaissance Bo’ao Resort & Spa: Marriott International has reached the milestone figure of 250 open and signed hotels in Asia, with the 250th hotel to be located in Bo’ao in China.
One of the world’s largest hotel chains – Marriott International – announced launching of a new project on constructing major hotel complex at the Boao resort in the Chinese province of Hainan. It will become the 250th hotel of the company in Asia. This represents 129 open hotels plus our development pipeline of 121 projects – totaling more than 75,000 rooms in 15 countries.
"We are delighted to have reached 250 hotels in Asia and are looking forward to continued growth in the region,” explained Simon Cooper, Marriott International’s president and managing director, Asia Pacific. "We are seeing growth across all countries in Asia and in the past few weeks have signed landmark hotels in key locations including Macau, Vietnam and India. We continue to see excellent growth in China where we now have more than 100 open and signed hotels, and expect to open on average one hotel a month in the country for at least the next three years.”
Currently Marriott International operates 129 hotels in Asia. However, China remains as the main priority for the network development in this region. Now in Asia there are 121 Marriott hotels at different stages of constructions, and the largest number of them will be introduced in China. In total, Marriott expects to increase the number of rooms in 15 countries of the region by 75 thousand.
According to Simon Cooper, the head of Asian department in Marriott, among the priorities in addition to China are Vietnam and India. Thailand should also be added to this list as in early May the company announced its intention to open three hotels at the Thai resorts: Rayong Marriott Resort & Spa at the Rayong resort and two hotels in Bangkok – luxurious Marriott Hotel Bangkok Sukhumvit and apart-hotel Marriott Executive Apartments Bangkok – Sukhumvit Thonglor.
As for China, among then major contracts marked by Mr. Cooper is recently signed agreement on hotel construction in the main gambling center of the country – the former Portuguese colony of Macao. According to the top-manager, the total number of hotels in China – both opened and "signed" – has exceeded one hundred.
Today many world largest hotel chains are carrying out full-scale expansion in China and India. Five largest hotel companies of the world have in these two countries more than 850 hotels at various stages of construction. For example, one of the main Marriott competitors – IHG – plans to construct 31 new hotels in China. Another American company – Wyndham Hotel Group – intends to increase its room stock by 64 thousand in the next two years. Hilton hotel empire says about 90 hotels under construction in China.
