China Southern’s first A380 grounded amid safety concerns
Not too long ago, China Southern was happy to expect its very first A380 super-jumbo jet. However, the company is sad to report that they had to ground the plane in less than two weeks. Apparently, the plane was grounded by a mechanical failure.
Due to this, the airline had to cancel a flight on Saturday that was due to use that A380. Oddly enough, the plane’s maiden flight (only two weeks ago) went off without any problems. Some experts have admitted that they are very concerned with the fact that the flight has already been grounded.
Zou Yingping, who is a press officer for China Southern, said that they are not sure when the A380 flights can be resumed at this point in time. The problem right now is related to the plane’s power and drive unit. The mechanics are working around the clock to get this plane back in the air as quickly as possible.
The plane itself is a big money-maker for China Southern. That is because the plane is able to carry up to 1012 passengers at one time. Normally, the flight would carry people between Beijing and Shanghai. Unfortunately, for passengers, China Southern does not have a plane that is big enough to fill the shoes of the A380 while it is being worked on.
The passengers who were affected by the cancellations were transferred to an A330. The company also said that they would be giving a 400 yuan compensation package to all passengers affected. China Southern did not say if it will offer the compensation to people who just saw delays.
