The 65-metre Azimut-Benetti Ambrosia, the world’s biggest mega-yacht

The world’s most lavish yachts have passed through China’s Hainan Island stopping off at Asia’s ultimate luxury event.

VIP guests sailed yachts or flew private jet planes to Hainan, China’s only tropical island province, for three days of celebrations during the Rendez Vous Festival in April.

The Festival celebrated the beauty of travel and luxury living, with displays that included the world’s biggest mega-yacht, the 65-metre Azimut-Benetti Ambrosia.

Yachting Partners International (YPI) has deemed the second annual Rendez Vous Festival a top class event for inspecting and purchasing yachts.

The YPI Group is one of the world’s leading yacht brokerage houses, providing clients with support and advice on all aspects of superyachting.

‘YPI has been working with an Asian clientele for almost all of its 40 years in existence,’ said YPI Group CEO Betrand Vogele, as he discussed the increase in recent years in the demand from clients in the Asia region.

Increased demand has led YPI to increase its presence in the region, and their attendance in Hainan was part of these plans.

‘Bringing the superyacht Ambrosia to this event shows how serious we are about bringing quality product to clients here,’ Vogele said.

Guests walked among the world’s elite, honouring luxurious living while admiring private jets, personal yachts, and million dollar homes on display at the exhibition. From jet planes and helicopters to fashion, the world’s most exclusive designs were on show.

The Festival also acted as a launch for exclusive Chinese-made superyachts selling fro up to 13 million Yuan (US$2 million). China’s ambitious yacht builders show how Chinese companies are moving into higher-value products, and is ‘a sign of China’s own industrial confidence’, said Ryan Swift, Editor-in-Chief of Asia-Pacific Boating Magazine.

The event was just another draw card for the international community to Hainan, dubbed ‘the Hawaii of the Far East’, which has seen a sharp increase in international tourism in recent years.

As part of China’s plans to make the island a top international tourist destination by 2020, the island has hosted numerous international festivals from sporting competitions and Miss World Beauty Pageants to international political summits. Along with these, the 2011 Rendez Vous Festival has helped to put the island on the map for the world’s elite.
