Tourism returning to normal for flood-hit Hainan
The wild force of nature battered many famous sites in Hainan province. The Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden, in Wanning city is one of the worst-hit.
Hectares of plants were submerged. An expert says it’s very hard for those species to recover. And visitor numbers were affected, too.
Wu Songhua from Academy of Tropical Agri. Sciences, said, "The daily flow of tourists last year reached 5,000 to 6,000. But the number is less than 2 thousand this year."
But as weather conditions eased in the past few days, most of the tour sites in Hainan have reopened.
And that’s good news for visitors.
Tourist Mr Chen said, "Wuzhizhou island was slightly affected. The waters have receded, everything is now back to normal. All activity seems as usual."
Tourist Cai Fei said, "Everything is back, especially for the eastern tour line. All scenic spots are reopened, as well as hotels. Welcome to Hainan!"
The local people are doing their best to ensure the complete recovery of Hainan’s tourism industry.
