Sanya South Mosque

There are six mosques in Sanya. The largest and best known is the Sanya South Mosque.Having been renovated several times over the last thousand years, it is a place where Muslims can meet for daily prayers. Its architecture is a mix of classic Arabic and traditional Chinese.

One of the most impressive ways to experience China’s economic growth over the last few decades is to see it firsthand. On the southernmost tip of the southernmost province in China, the city of Sanya is a true mirage to be believed. Touted as the “Hawaii of the East”, this tropical paradise is growing at a pace that the designers of Dubai would nod in acceptance. Not only is the sheer amount of concrete pour to construct the dozens of international caliber hotels that have opened impressive, so too are the kilometers of beachfront transformed into paradise. With new venues opening and new events occurring with increasing numbers, the contrast of expectations unfolds in front of the eyes. Sanya mixes traditional culture with amenities for an emperor.

A Touch of Islam on the Island
Of the many places around China, few have such a multicultural group of people living harmoniously together. Part of Sanya’s diversity in culture includes the Hui ethnic people. Mostly living in neighborhoods not far from Sanya International Airport, called the Huihui and Huixin villages, they continue many customs of their culture in daily life. In accordance with their religious beliefs, they wear head scarves and shops in this area do not sell alcohol or tobacco. The restaurants observe other cultures customs and no pork is sold here. However, you’ll find some of the best barbecued lamb in the city. A stroll through these villages is a real cultural experience and noticeably different from other parts of Sanya. There are six mosques in Sanya. The largest and best known is the Sanya South Mosque. Having been renovated several times over the last thousand years, it is a place where Muslims can meet for daily prayers. Its architecture is a mix of classic Arabic and traditional Chinese. It is a true sight to see.

Top Class Services for a Sultan
While statistics show that China is certainly a “developing” country, it would be hard to imagine while standing in the lobby of one of the new international standard 5-star hotels here. There is a vast selection of international hotels. Most offer a President’s Suite that is large, with ocean front balconies. Others are made exclusively of villas that can include private swimming pools and butler services. Food menus are typical of a tropical resort: fresh seafood, fruit and fruit juices, Chinese cuisine, and Western favorites that are all at international quality. However, VIP guests can inquire about a personal chef to prepare things “as you see fit”. Besides the services within the hotel, outdoor activities can be organized by the concierge. Waverunners, speedboats, or large yachts can be chartered to enjoy the sunny days. Perhaps getting chauffeured around in a Bentley is the way to get around. The point is that anything is on offer for the right price. Newly wealthy Chinese are challenging the service providers to meet their ever increasing demands. It’s not “typical” China here. It is the new mecca for people with ample money and extreme expectations.

There are so many different venues along the beaches. There is certainly a place to be found for families, couples, and singles. Depending on your own personal preferences, challenge yourself to find your excitement in this beach town with pizzazz!
