According to statistics provided by the Sanya City Statistics Bureau, Sanya’s GDP in the first half of the year 2010 reached RMB10.947 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20% over the same period of 2009. The growth rates of the primary, secondary and tertiary industry are 5.4%, 19.3% and 26.2% respectively.

In the first half of the year, the total fixed asset investment of Sanya stood at RMB11.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 41.1%. Besides, the foreign trade value of Sanya amounted to US$26.35 million, consisting output value of $US25.50 million and import value of $US0.85 million.

As a renowned tourist city and hot destination in China, tourism is the most important industry in Sanya’s service sector which generated total tourism revenue of RMB7.54 billion, an increase of 29.6% in the first half of 2010. According to the Sanya Phoenix International Airport, the passenger traffic rose 39.9% year on year to 5.38 million in the first half of 2010.
 
Moreover, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached RMB3.15 billion, a year-on-year increase of 28.4%. The total imports and exports reached $US26.35 million, a year-on-year increase of 13%.
